4. Will Medicare pay for a portable oxygen concentrator?

Yes, Original Medicare does pay for portable oxygen concentrators but only in certain situations. Medicare does not pay for the purchase of POCs; Medicare only pays for rental of POCs.

POCs are under Medicare's Competitive Bidding (CB) Program. If you live or visit a CB area, Medicare will only consider payment if you get the POC from a CB contracted supplier.

5. I have a Medicare Advantage Plan. Will my plan pay for a portable oxygen concentrator?

Each Medicare Advantage plan will have their own coverage policies. You should contact your insurance company for more information.

6. Can I use my Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA)?

The IRS designates some medical, dental, vision, and prescription expenses as Qualified Medical Expenses (QMEs). Before purchasing any items with your HSA or FSA account, you should verify that the item is designated as a QME by the IRS. Please visit the IRS website for more information.

If you choose to use your HSA or FSA card, Respironics Colorado does accept these credit cards and debit cards. It is your responsibility to verify that the item you are purchasing is a designated QME.
